BILLY JOE HAGGARD, Sr., 79, of Piedmont, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was one of nine children born in Cedar Bluff, AL to James J. and Mary Lynn “Lillian” Austin Haggard. His parents and three siblings, Ralph Haggard, Peggy Rosson, and May Payton, preceded him in death.
Mr. Haggard was an extraordinary man showing his Christian values through his love for his family, being a friend to everyone, and being a very giving person without regards or expectations from anyone. He married the love of his life on March 11 and was devoted to her for almost 57 years. He was a very loving husband and great daddy who spoiled his wife, kids, and grandkids. He had a great sense of humor and passed it on to his family. He was a very strong fighter for 23 years with many physical complications, working every day -only did he struggle the last three of those years. He owned and operated a logging business, was a truck driver, a mechanic, all self-taught with no formal education. Even though he could do anything, he never failed to teach anybody that wanted to learn the many facets of his work life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include his wife: Peggy Jo Bramlett Haggard; sons: Billy Joe Haggard, Jr., and Ronnie (Barbara) Haggard; daughter: Myra (David) Bradley; brother: W.L. “Dub” (Brenda) Haggard; sisters: Wanda (Jimmy) Goodwin, Debra (Sammy) Rochester, Glenda Watson Chastain, and Cathy Haggard Dutton; grandchildren: Corey Haggard, Cody Kerr, Jory Haggard, Megan (Ethan) Wright, Chasidy Kirk and Chelsea Haggard; special nephews: Gary Haggard and Roger Haggard; other nieces and nephews; and numerous close friends.
