Bud Franklin McGatha

BUD FRANKLIN McGATHA, 83, of the Ball Play Community, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024 at his residence. Born in Cherokee County to Murney “Bud” and Lizzy Alvertia Doss McGatha, he was one of fifteen children.                                                                                                                                   Before his retirement, he was the maintenance and mechanic for the Housing Authority of Gadsden.  He was a loyal member of the Bread of Life Church. He knew what hard work was coming from a large family where he had to help with outside chores.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who cherished ever minute he had with his family.                                                                                                                                                                                               He was preceded in death by his parents; and six brothers: Wayne, Daniel, Billy, Matthew, Harley and Bobby Joe.                                                                             He is survived by his wife: Dellie Gail McGatha; daughter: Sharon Annette (Tony) Megnin; sons: James Franklin (Sissy) McGatha and Jacob Dewayne (Anniston) McGatha; six brothers: Marvin (Cathy) McGatha, Andrew (Becky) McGatha, Guy (Patty) McGatha, Tony (Joan) McGatha, Joel (Marie) McGatha and Richard (Dana) McGatha; two sisters: Shirley (Larry) Buttram and Lovella (Ronnie) Morris; four grandchildren: Shanna Rena Dollar, Keith McGatha, Dusty McGatha, and Abbi Gail King;  eight great grandchildren: Anna Grace Cook; Landon Cook, Laveah Dupree, Jeremiah McGatha, Katie Harington, Charlotte McGatha, Jermarcus McGatha and Ryder Dean Wayne King; and many nieces and nephews.                                                                                   Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 2:00 PM from Dansby Heritage Chapel with visitation from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in Gnatville Cemetery. Brother Larry Perkins and  Brother Eddie Balenger will officiate. Pallbears will be Jacob McGatha, Keith McGatha, Jamie McGatha, Jared King, Tony Megnin and Wesley Dollar.                                                                                                                                                                                            Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the McGatha Family.
