Dorris Juanita Patrick

February 5, 1938 — February 14, 2024

Anniston

Dorris Juanita Patrick a.k.a “Mutt” born February 5, 1938 to Riley Jeston and Mamie Lou Baxter Reynolds in Piedmont, Alabama in the Mill Village passed peacefully this morning at 6:40. Glynis & I were by her side.  She was the fourth of six children. The nickname Mutt came along when her older sister Frances didn’t like the ugly little mutt when she was born. The name stuck. She would tell me how she and her brother and sisters would pick out the neighbor lady’s puniest baby chicken and drop a brick on it’s head. Poor little chick was then put in a matchbox so they could have a funeral. The girls would cry and carry on, while Bill preached. One of her favorite memories was when her only brother and his friend Spooky had Harleys and would leave them parked in Ninny and Granddaddy’s yard. She would “steal” one and go joy riding. They started removing a part to stop her from taking them. She went and bought her own part and kept joy riding. She said they used to let air out of the tires and ride on the railroad tracks. I’m not even gonna mention snake hunting. She married Papa for the first time when she was very young (17 I think), they moved to New Jersey. She was homesick and came home to Alabama and her Daddy. Once Ninny and Granddaddy passed there was no reason to stay in Alabama and she went back to Papa. He told her he always knew she would come back. They would have been married 53 years on February the ninth. They lost a premature son in 1972, he was Stephen Jr. She came from a hardworking family and worked hard her whole life. She was the most wonderful cook and her chocolate pies were the best. I’m not sure what her favorite food was, but she always wanted beans and taters. She was a wonderful Mama. Always telling me before she spanked me, “this is gonna hurt me more than you”. She lived the last seventeen years with us; I wouldn’t change it for anything. She is survived by me (Tammy) and Jan, Kim (her granddaughter), great grandchildren Skyler (Ana) and Bayley (Jordan). She was so honored to watch you grow up and so proud of you both. I hope you all know how much she loved you. They called her “Ninny Mutt”.
Those great, great grandchildren Avery and Sage brought such great joy to her and she lit up anytime she saw them. Her “favorite daughter”, Glynis who was beside her all through her last months, every day. Mama loved her as much as she loved me.
She leaves her only surviving sibling, her “little brother” Bill. Many nieces and nephews who were so special to her. She felt like you all belonged to her. She leaves  eight grand dogs and one grand cat.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Stephen Patrick Patrick and their infant son, by her sisters, Betty, Nell, Frances and Joyce. Whom she missed so very much.
I don’t have to tell you how special she was or how much we all loved her. God bless her sweet soul.
Per her wishes there will be no funeral service or memorial.
