Mrs. Waits was born in Etowah County, AL in 1930. The family struggled as she was growing up, so Edith grew up determined to make a good life for herself. She was very proud of getting a good job working for the railroad company, Norfolk Southern, as a rate clerk. She was a very independent woman who was determined to make a good life for her family. After she retired, she loved traveling with her husband up until his death after 51 years of marriage. After he passed, she loved traveling the country with her daughter, Linda, viewing different lighthouses across the country.
In the last few years of her life, she suffered from dementia. She often remembered her youth with her telling stories of her father blowing smoke in her ear when she had an earache or drinking coffee with her father. She could also be found sharing stories of her grandfather and how much he loved her.
Edith is survived by her children Larry Waits (Kathy) of Union City, GA, and Linda Martin (Nathan) of Palmetto, GA; her sister Gladys Kendall of Gadsden; 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 8:30 am CST until the start of the service on Sunday.
Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Waits family.
