Mrs. Elizabeth Slaughter Tierce, 78, of Spring Garden, passed away peacefully at home, on Sunday, October 15, 2023, surrounded by her family.
Elizabeth was born at home, on a hill nestled in the mountains surrounding Langdon Settlement, near Rock Run Station, to the late Jonnie and Katie Slaughter. Until she was 13 years old there was no electricity or running water in the family home. As a girl, she helped with the chores such as carrying drinking water uphill for household use. Times were hard but it helped prepare her to be a fighter. During her life she fought two types of cancer, strokes, dementia and was two-thirds blind.
“Lib” (as most called her) was the tenth of eleven children. Her brothers were Franklin, Sonny and Ray. Sisters were Ruby Dean, Louise, Frances, Helen, Betty, Imogene and Barbara. All of these predeceased her except Imogene Johnson and Barbara Parrish. She was married to her high school sweetheart, Gene Tierce, in Spring Garden. They had no children that lived to experience this life but a son whose life was taken (Trevor) before leaving the womb, was waiting with God the Father and His Son the Messiah, Jesus, as she entered heaven. She is also survived by sister-in-law: Tonya Pike and her husband, David; Special nieces: Janice Diamond and Julie Maddox; as well as other nieces and nephews.
Lib’s working career was various. She worked in retail, manufacturing and as a bookkeeper for Jordan Insurance Company. Her favorite job was as secretary/bookkeeper for thirteen years at her Alma Mater, Spring Garden School.
She loved Gospel singing, her pets, the outdoors and would smile when she hears the birds sing. She was a non-denominational Christian.
Many thanks to Amedysis Hospice and precious caregivers, Judy Adkison and LaCindra Bowman
