Herman Gowens

HERMAN ROSS GOWENS, 10, 100, of the Pleasant Gap Community of Piedmont, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2021 at Cherokee Medical Center in Centre. Born in Cherokee County, he was a devoted husband and father, and faithful member of Union Grove United Methodist Church.    He is survived by two sons: H. Wayne Gowens and Gary Gowens (Rita Gresham); three granddaughters:   Carol (Chris) Tierce, Cheryl (Brent) Kiser and Joy (Michael) Cribbs; three great grandchildren: Amanda (Blake) Walker, Kristin Tierce and Abigail Cribbs.                                                              Mr. Gowens was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Mavis Pope Gowens; his parents: Walt and Fannie Vickers Gowens; three brothers: Odus, Vester, and Joe Gowens; and daughter in law: Billie Jo Gowens.                                                                                                                           Visitation will be Sunday, January 10, 2021 from 12:00 – 2:00 PM from Dansby Heritage Chapel with the service at 2:00 PM with Rev. Dennis Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Union Grove United Methodist Church Building Fund.                                                                                                                                                                                                          Pallbearers will be Donnie Gowens, Rodney Gowens, Mike Welsh, Mark Welsh, Brian Jones, and Terry McGinnis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Carl Pope, David Rhinehart, Ted Acker, Robbie Williams, and Paul Williams.                                                                                                                            The Family would like to offer special thanks to his caregivers: Susan King, Melissa Ledbetter, and Connie Curtis.                                                           Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Gowens Family.
