Mary Louise "Mert" Holbrook

Graveside Services for Mrs. Mary Louise “Mert” Holbrook, 89, of Piedmont will be held on Sunday, October 6, at 2:00 PM from Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be On Saturday, October 5, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dailey Street Baptist Church.

Born in Cherokee Co. to James T. Mallows and Bertie Rutherford Mallows. She was preceded in death by her parents; Husband: Clyde Holbrook Jr.; Son: Carey A. Holbrook; Siblings: Ed Rutherford, James Mallows Jr., Frances Mallows Knighten, George Mallows, Doris Mallows, Wendell Mallows Wilson, and Betty Mallows Davis; and grandchild: Kenneth Michael Brandon Holbrook.

Survivors are her Sons: Micheal J. Holbrook (Barbara) and Kenneth R. Holbrook (Teresa); Grandchildren: Brandi Holbrook Frey and Grant Michael Holbrook; Great Grandchildren: Madison Holbrook, Brylon Frey, Berklie Floyd, and Race Floyd.

She was a homemaker and an active mother involved in all the areas of the boys’ lives from being a den mother to attending all sporting events. She taught swimming lessons at the YMCA in the 60s, also she and her husband managed the teen center from 1974 – 1981. She loved to bowl and tend to her flowers. 

She raised countless dogs and never found a stray that she did not love and care for. She loved her dogs, but her family was her true delight. She was a beloved member of Dailey Street Baptist Church.

The Family has been blessed to have caregivers that loved and cared for mom over the last couple of years. Thank you, Stacie Reynolds, Lacindra Bowman, Susan King, Susie Kennedy, and Bonnie Hooper

Pallbearers will be Barry Davis, Robert Jones, Rodney Holmes, Eric Floyd, Dustin Trammell, Blake Trammell, and Robby Schoonhoven.
