Nilmarg Russell Smart

NILMARG RUSSELL SMART, 86, of Piedmont, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023 at Gadsden Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.  She was one of fifteen children born in Mountain Springs, Cherokee County, AL to Chancellor Burton and Annie Lou Woods Russell. 

Ms Smart was a graduate of Cherokee County High School and worked in the textile factory.  She was one who loved God, her family, and her friends.  She was an awesome baker and homemaker and loved spoiling the grandkids and the great grandkids. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Norris Lee Smart, and son, Keith Smart, and numerous siblings.

Survivors include her daughters: Evelyn Young (Tracy) and Lisa Grubb (Jeff); grandchildren: Katie Rodriguez (Jay Johnson), Morgan Simmons (Brandon), Samantha Slanovitis (Michael), Sadie Beavers (Derek) and Jake Grubb (Diana); great grandchildren: Kyle Naugher (Katelin), Rylie Hermance, Dalton Simmons, EJ Simmons, Bayleigh Simmons, Ashton Simmons, Madie Beavers, Charlotte Beavers, and Ruth Slanovitis; great, great grandchildren: Wil Locklear and Isabelle Naugher; brother: Bobby (Ann) Russell; and sisters: Betty smith and Louise Law.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. from Dansby Heritage Chapel with Rev. Jerry Stewart officiating.  The family will receive friends from 9:30 until funeral time. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery.  Pallbearers will be Craig Russell, Greg Russell, Jake Grubb, Kyle Naugher, Brandon Simmons, and Jay Johnson. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Roberts Chapel Baptist Church, 5673 Maxwellborn Road, Piedmont, AL 36272.
