Rev. Clayton Douglas Gowens, Sr., 67, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2013 at his residence. He was a life long resident of Piedmont, born to Clayton M.J. and Annie Faye Pruiett Gowens on Wednesday, November 14, 1945. He was a licensed minister with the Congregational Holiness Church, a member of Plainview Congregational Holiness Church, served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam era, and was a member of the DAV. Survivors include his wife: Shirley Webb Gowens; sons: Clayton Douglas Gowens, Jr., and Christopher Shane Gowens; daughter: Lynette (Ben) Poole; brothers: Rev. Kenneth Lee (Trudy) Gowens, Sr., and Lonnie Earl Gowens; sister: Genelle (the late Billy) Locklear; 6 grandchildren: Melinda Faye Poole, Benjamin Jacob Poole, Jonathon Mark Poole, Dustin Tyler Gowens, Amber Paige Gowens, and Tristan Henderson; one niece, one nephew; one great niece and one great nephew; and his faithful companion, Trouble. Funeral Services will be held Sunday, May 19, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. from the Plainview Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Jerry Kelley, Herbert Reid, and Stanley Turner officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Springs Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, May 18 from 6- 8 PM from Dansby Heritage Chapel. Pallbearers will be Harold Martin, Kenneth Lee Gowens, Jr., Tim Pollard, Lynn Crook, Henry Puckett, Tommy Traffensteadt, and Randall Bangs. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alex Sparks and members of the Plainview Congregational Holiness Church. Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Gowens Family.
