Thomas Nathan Smart, 44, a lifelong resident of Piedmont, passed away Sunday, August 11, 2024. He was born in Jacksonville, AL to Thomas Edward Smart and Rhonda Blalock.

He was a 1998 graduate of Piedmont High School and then attended Gadsden State on a welding scholarship. Nathan was a loving father, husband, and son. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working with his cows. He also enjoyed dove shoots with his friends. He was a brick mason by trade and owned and operated Smart Masonry, Farm, and Rental Properties.

 He was preceded in death by his father: Thomas “Eddie” Smart; and grandparents: Thomas and Dean Smart and Aline Israel and Lewis Blalock.

He is survived by his loving wife: Christie Dempsey Smart; son: Cayden Smart; mother: Rhonda (Scottie) Sorrells; and brothers: Chad Casey and Caleb Casey.

Funeral services will be Saturday, August 17, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. from Dansby Heritage Chapel with visitation from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Union Grove Cemetery. Rev. Charles Thomas will officiate with Dr. Bill Berry, Chad Casey, Jeff Smart, Caleb Casey, Cody Carroll, Corey Steed, Brian Studdard, and J L Smart serving as pallbearers.

Dansby Heritage Chapel is honored to serve the Smart Family.
